Emotions Run High During Vigil For Jamisha Gilbert

Lynchburg, VA - There were prayers for peace steps from where Jamisha Gilbert's body was found on Monday night.

Friends and family gathered to remember the 18 year old who went missing in Lynchburg on December 1. Her body was found near the Megginson cemetery on Wednesday of last week.

The group prayed inside the Megginson school, shared stories of Jamisha, and condolences for her family.

Afterwards, the group headed outside, where they lit candles and continued their prayers.

"My daughter didn't mess with nobody. She wasn't no violent child, she wasn't on drugs, she didn't drink, she was in to school. My daughter's supposed to be going to college next month. Now I've got to bury my daughter for Christmas" said Reginald Poindexter, Jamisha's Father.

Friends of Gilbert organized the vigil they say in an effort to bring awareness to young women's safety.
