Hundreds Still Without Power Going Into Cold Night

Bedford Co., VA - As temperatures continued to drop Monday night, some were still out of power.

It was that heavy precipitation that froze to trees and power lines, causing thousands of outages throughout Virginia, Monday.

Crews commissioned by Central Virginia Electric Cooperative worked in Appomattox County where a few hundred were in the dark.

Across the area though, thousands were impacted. At one point a few hundred were out in Amherst, Campbell, Pittsylvania, and Bedford Counties.

Crews working for Southside Electric Cooperative in Bedford County said at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, hundreds in the dark in New London had their power restored.

So many folks grateful the lights and heat came on just in time, "Always good to have power, particularly water, that's the biggest thing" said one man.

"You don't have any water. You know, we have a heat source with the fireplace so we'll go with that, but yeah, not having any water, that's hard" said another.

For residents in New London who use wells as water sources, no electricity means no water.
