Lynchburg, VA - It looked like Santa's Workshop at the Templeton Senior Center in Lynchburg Tuesday morning volunteers were busy wrapping thousands of gifts.

As part Home Instead's "Be a Santa to a Senior" program, trees were placed at businesses around the area with the names of seniors on them who might not otherwise get any presents this holiday season.

People then picked a tag and bought gifts for the name on it.

The gifts were returned last week. Tuesday, volunteers started wrapping.

"We sometimes ask for those frivolous things and they don't have the basics so I think that's what touches your heart that these elderly need things and they don't have anyone," said Volunteer Heather Collins.

"We have 1300 recipients here in Lynchburg, 2300 total for the program and behind us there's probably two or three for each of those people so it's wonderful," added Volunteer Brenda Dixon.

Workers say they still need people to be a part of Santa's Rescue Squad and help with last minute gifts.
