Roanoke Co. Man Pleads Guilty in Death of 18-Month-Old Veralee Craft

Roanoke Co, VA - The man accused of killing a 13-month-old little girl pleaded guilty to first degree murder Thursday.

Preston King entered the plea in order to avoid a capital murder trial in the death of Veralee Craft.

The plea will allow the 28-year old to avoid the death penalty, but certainly will not save King from life in prison.

The judge accepted the plea Thursday, leading to the Commonwealth's presentation of their primary evidence.

The chilling evidence included Veralee's long litany of injuries, on more than one occasion, and for a duration of time over as much as three weeks.

The evidence was difficult to listen to and the images of young Veralee in her last hours were even harder to see.

There were even some autopsy photos the prosecution wanted the judge to see as a way to show the extent of her injuries.

Veralee's father was there to witness it all.

"It's tough. I understand that it is part of the proceeding but it is tough to look at," Veralee's Father, Jonathan Craft said.

King will be sentenced early next year.
