State Police: Alcohol Was a Factor in Eastern VA Amtrak Crash

Waverly, VA - State Police say no passengers were hurt when an Amtrak train was involved in a crash Thursday morning in Waverly.

According to police, the train was headed to Boston when it hit a vehicle that tried to drive around a crossing bar.

The driver of the car was airlifted to Richmond but is expected to be okay.

State Police say 46 people were on board.

The train did not derail.

The train was able to move on to the next stop about two hours after the accident.

Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
