More Colonels Talk on Facing Essex for Title

Altavista - The gameplans are set, the preparations made, game week practices in the books. Now it's time to play the game, State Championship Saturday is upon us.

The Altavista Colonels are one of the three area teams playing for state titles Saturday.  The Colonels come in with a 13-and-1 record, led by standout junior quarterback Juan Thornhill. Altavista's opponent is 13-and-1 Essex, who's got a star quarterback of its own in junior Dominek Broaddus.  Broaddus has thrown 36 TDs this year, 54 last year as a sophomore.  So both defenses should have their hands full.

Donavan Montague, ALTAVISTA JR. DEF. BACK/RECEIVER, said "It's just another football game, I can't look at it another way because I'm very superstitious so if I look at it a different way I feel like things won't go our way.  So I just prepare the way I've prepared for these past 14 weeks."

Ashton Robinson, ALTAVISTA SENIOR OL/DL, said "I'm a senior and we're still playing in the third, second or third week in December.  This is a dream, multiple teams in our area could be where we are now, but God allowed us to be here and it's very exciting."
