Escaped inmate back in custody

JEFFERSON COUNTY - AL -

A man who was serving a 18-year-old sentence on a drug conviction in Jefferson County is back in custody.

Corrections officials say David Thomas did not return to a prison work-release center in Hamilton on Sunday night.  Thomas had been granted a 48-hour furlough.Officials say the 42-year-old's wife returned him to the center Monday night.

Thomas surrendered without incident.
