SML Water Project Moves Forward

Bedford Co., VA - The plan to pull more drinking water from Smith Mountain Lake moves forward with the hiring of an engineering company by the Bedford Regional Water Authority.

Black & Veatch will study the addition of a treatment plant and water lines from Moneta to Forest. That is phase one of the project. The contract with Black & Veatch is not to exceed $1.12 million.

Phase 2, which includes construction, could begin next year.

Construction must be completed by December 2016, when the Town of Bedford must have a backup water source under the reversion agreement.

The completed project is expected to cost $33 million.
