Lynchburg House Fire Displaces Two Families
Tuesday, December 31, 2013 4:56 AM EST
Lynchburg, VA - The Red Cross is assisting two families after a fire damaged their house early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Yeardley Avenue just after midnight. When crews arrived, they found a second floor room filled with fire and smoke.
Four adults and three children were home at the time, including a one month old. They were able to get out safely.
Crews say the upstairs room has fire damage, and much of the rest of the house suffered water damage. They say also had to call in crews from the utility companies to cut off the electricity and gas.
Officials say the home is currently uninhabitable, and neither family has renters insurance. Firefighters stayed on the scene for a few hours afterwards to help the families move their belongings.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation
