Update: Bedford Co. Hunter Falls From Tree Stand

Roanoke, VA- According to officials, 60-year-old Michael Carter passed away Saturday morning at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

According to Officer Nate Bolling with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Carter died at 9:25 a.m. from complications of blunt force injuries related to his fall on Tuesday.

Officials say he fell 12 feet to the ground, but was able to walk to a neighbor's house for help. Carter had been listed in fair condition.

Bedford Co., VA - A Bedford County hunter is recovering after falling from a tree stand.

Michael Carter, 60, is in fair condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said Carter was deer hunting from a stand behind his home on Benchmark Lane around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Conservation Police said the old, wooden stand gave way.

They said Carter was not wearing a safety harness and fell 12 feet to the ground, but was able to walk to a neighbor's house for help.
