Creative Workplace to Help You Start a Small Business

Posted: Updated:

Many communities thrive on small businesses. In the new year, you might be thinking, it's time to take the plunge and start your own company.

In Broken Arrow, Full Steam Collective is set-up to help you start that dream.

"A spot that people can come and do their own work but then as a group or as a team work together on projects as well," Full Steam Collective Owner Luke Owens said.

The space was designed for creative types to rent a desk and do any kind of work that they could imagine. Owens also owns the Hub gym and Okie Doodle Design, so he understands starting a new business can seem scary. So this place is here to maybe get you out of your home work space and away from the distractions.

"First do it, try it. You will never know, I hate the idea of being on my death bed with regrets of wondering what would have been if I tried it. So, try it and stick to it for awhile. It's not going to be an overnight thing," Owens said.

Others tips you want to consider, make sure you research everything about the business you want to start and put together a clear plan and most importantly find something you are excited about.

"Work from your passions and your skills sets, work on the things that you know the most about and have the passion about because you will be more successful that way," Vice President of Broken Arrow Economic Development Warren Unsicker said.

Unsicker said the city has invested more than 4-million dollars in economic development and given small businesses incentives to come here.

"A lot of times we get excited about the big businesses coming to town, you know the 800 job, that are going to come to town, that we are chasing everyday but small business make up 90 percent of the businesses in the community," Unsicker said.

This means 30 percent of the jobs come from those small business.

"With everything that is going on with the Rose District and everything that will be going on I think it's a prime time to really try something new," Owens said.

Full Steam Collective is located at 517 N Main St. in Broken Arrow. For more information contact Luke Owens at luke@okiedoodledesign.com
