Southside Native James King Receives Grammy Nomination

Posted:

Brosville, VA-- One man in our area will be walking the red carpet at the Grammy's in Los Angeles later this month.

James King from Brosville is nominated for Best Bluegrass Album of the Year. He was surprised because this album is very different from his others.

The album, Three Chords and the Truth, is made of old country songs but he put a Bluegrass twist to them. King describes the nomination as the pinnacle of his career.

King said he has bluegrass music in his blood. His father was a bluegrass musician and King kept it in the family. He's been playing for over 20 years.

When King released his most recent album in late September, he never would imagined to get a special phone call from his record producer.

"He said where are you? I said I'm in Walmart doing a little Christmas shopping. He said have you been over in the CD selections, are you over there looking for the Grammy you was nominated for? I said do what?"

The album, Three Chords and a Truth,  has been nominated best Bluegrass Album of the year.
Although he was shocked, charts proved that the songs were doing well. It debuted on Billboard Chart at number 15.

"As of Thursday he was the number one added seller for the day. Those percentages were up about 700 percent for digital download," said Julie King, King's wife and manager.

King and his Band have also been on high demand all over the country

"We've got 99 dates for this coming year," said King.

"I'm booking up as far as 2016," said Julie King.

King said  it was a lot of work getting to this point, and never thought he could.

"By getting nominated for this Grammy, I got paid back a lot and I am very happy I am," said King.
