Officials with Central Virginia Electric Cooperative and Dominion Power are working to correct an issue that is leaving some people without power.
Dominion Power is reporting over 8,500 outages in Augusta County and over 10,000 in Waynesboro. CVEC is reporting over 6,000 outages in Nelson County and over 700 in Albemarle County.
Officials with CVEC say some members who receive power from substations around Crozet, Afton, and Nellysford are without power. The issue also effects customers in Nelson County between Shipman and Covesville, Wintergreen Mountain, and some Dominion customers in and around Waynesboro.
CVEC Officials say customers do not need to report their power outage, but they can help by turning off their appliances and electric heating. They say this will help reduce stress to their system after they fix the issue and restore power. Officials say those affected can leave a light on to know when the power comes back, and then they can gradually turn on the their appliances.
CVEC offcials say they are waiting for Dominion personnel to identify and correct the issue on the transmission line.
