Dangerously Cold Monday Night

Posted:

This morning an Arctic cold front is moving through our state. The rain showers could end as flurries in Central Virginia and snow showers are likely across western sections.

Early temperatures are in the upper 30s to lower 40s, then fall once the front swings through, plummeting into the lower 30s and 20s by the afternoon. In addition, gusty west winds will develop.

As a result, there are Wind Chill Advisories and Wind Chill Warnings in effect tonight throughout the viewing area. As lows overnight dip down into the single digits, sub-zero wind chills are to be expected through Tuesday morning. The wind chill may be as low as -15 to -30 degrees at times. Frostbite occurs in 30 minutes at wind chills of -20. You should not have any exposed skin outside during these dangerous conditions, and don't forget to bring pets indoors!

Highs on Tuesday don't get out of the teens. After one more night in the single digits Tuesday night, the Arctic air slowly begins to lift out Wednesday.

Late week remains chilly, with some snow showers possible Thursday night. By this weekend afternoon temperatures become milder, in the 50s. A few rain showers are possible Saturday.
