Friends Remember Lynchburg Woman Killed in Sunday Crash; 'She' Not Going to Be There'

Lynchburg, VA - A young Lynchburg woman who died in a weekend car crash is being remembered for her willingness to help others.

Police believe Kristie Kitts, 19, might have hit ice while driving on Boonsboro Road Sunday morning. She was not wearing her seat belt, police say.

Kitts was an EC Glass graduate and nursing major at Lynchburg College.

Kitts' friends say she was generous and caring. She was going to make a great nurse, they say.

That dream, unfortunately cut short by her death.

Kitts was also a student at Seven Hills Dance Studio.

The director there tells ABC 13 the young woman was on her way to work at Food Lion when the crash happened around 7 a.m. Sunday. Word quickly spread on social media among the Lynchburg College community.

There are several weeks left in the college's winter break, but several of Kitts' Kappa Delta sorority sisters returned to Lynchburg early after getting the news.

They say they already miss what they describe as her infectious laughter in the sorority house.

"There's quietness in the house now. I know it's going to be very hard for the girls that live here to walk by her room every day and her not be here. So, it'll be hard," said Courtney Gentry, Sorority Sister of Kitts.

"Taking pictures together. She's not going to be there. It's just going to be weird. And I guess that's when it's really going to hit us, when we're all back at school and she's not here," added Sorority Sister Lacey Zimbro of Kitts.

A service for Kristie is set for 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at First Christian Church on Rivermont Avenue in Lynchburg.

The family will receive visitors immediately following the service.

We're told Kristie's survivors include her identical twin sister, Katie.
