Checking on the Elderly and Disabled When the Temperatures Drop

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - As these temperatures drop be sure to keep your neighbors in mind, especially any elderly or disabled people that may have trouble keeping themselves warm.

Kris Shabestar with Lynchburg's Meals on Wheels program says that's what they're doing this week. They serve about 225 people in the greater Lynchburg area and have volunteers running 19 different routes, delivering meals. She says they will be taking a little extra time with each client to make sure they have everything they need to get through this frigid cold.

"We're you know, asking our volunteers to double check and make sure that everyone has adequate heating and they're prepared for the weather, and that they don't have any problems."

Shabestar is also telling volunteers to be sure and keep warm. She says they're just glad they won't be dealing with icy roads along with those single-digit temperatures.
