Danville, VA - A Danville man has learned the true meaning of man's best friend.
When Joseph Fox, 78, stepped outside his home he was not wearing a coat or shoes. He only meant to be outside for a minute, but he slipped and fell, leaving him stuck lying on the cold ground.
Fox yelled for help for at least 30 minutes, but no one came, until a neighbor let his dog out to use the bathroom.
When 6-year-old Angus didn't come back, his owner went looking for him. Fox heard his neighbor's screams and found Angus sitting right there beside him.
The owner, Ronald Harvey, happens to be Assistant Chief of the Danville Fire Department.
Harvey was able to get his neighbor back inside before he suffered hypothermia. Some call Harvey a hero, but he says all the credit goes to Angus.
"I think animals have a sixth sense and they know when somebody needs some help. Angus is a very loving, caring dog, and he heard the man hollering for help and he went over their and stayed with him, " Harvey said.
Mr. Fox did not want to talk on camera, but he is doing okay. He says he's thankful for both Harvey and Angus.
