Weather Not Impacting Election Turnout in Roanoke

Roanoke, VA – Cold weather didn't seem to be a factor for the 11th District's special election for Delegate Onzlee Ware's General Assembly seat.

Republican Octavia Johnson is taking on Democrat Sam Rasoul.

The district is traditionally a rare democratic district in an overwhelmingly red part of the commonwealth.

Roanoke's Registrar's Office, as well as several poll workers, say the turnout has been steady to good.

The weather did impact some poll workers who usually canvass outside on Election Day.

"That's why I'm indoors today. It's really cold out here but, you know, the due process has to go through. We have to elect our officials rain or shine we have to be out here," said Poll Worker Don Muse.

At the last check, 8.5% of the registered voters had cast a ballot. The polls closed at 7 p.m.
