Campbell Co., VA - There's another scam you need to hear about because the person is pretending to be involved with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.
A local business says they were contacted by a man claiming to be a Project Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office.
He was selling refrigerator magnets.
The Sheriff's Office says this man is not affiliated with them and it is a scam.
If you get one of these calls, always check with the Sheriff's Office to see if it's legitimate before you buy anything.

They're at it again folks! Just this week we had a report from a local business that they had been contacted by a male claiming to be a "Project Coordinator" for the Campbell County Sheriff's Office and guess what; he's selling refrigerator magnets. We don't know this man and have not authorized anyone to sell refrigerator magnets for this office. Please see the below post that we put on here in August of 2013. This is still applicable.
It has come to the attention of the Campbell Co Sheriff's Office that a couple of out of state businesses are contacting local businesses and either identifying themselves as working with/for the Sheriff's Office or that the Sheriff's Office supports their solicitation. These companies produce and distribute refrigerator magnets with business ads on them. While they appear to be legitimate businesses they do not have the permission of the Sheriff's Office to use our name or to list any association with our agency in their solicitations. They have been asked to stop any marketing that refers to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office in their requests for funds.
The Sheriff's Office does, however, authorize the following to use the name of the Campbell County Sheriff's Office when attempting to sell advertisements: National Child Safety Council, Department Calendars LLC, and the VA Sheriff's Institute. All three of the above listed do not represent themselves as Sheriff's Office employees and some will have a signed letter of consent from me to allow solicitation on behalf of the Sheriff's Office.
Unfortunately it is necessary in these economic times to raise funds through many means. The National Child Safety Council utilizes the funds received to provide brochures, handouts, etc that can be given to youth and citizens of Campbell Co for educational purposes. The VA Sheriff's Institute solicits funds to provide scholarships for Campbell County students that plan to attend VA colleges and study criminal justice in anticipation of becoming a law enforcement officer. I'm pleased to say that Campbell County students have benefited from these scholarships for the past 15 years.
If anyone receives a solicitation for funds that you have questions or concerns about, please do not consent to give any funds until you have checked with our Office to verify the legitimacy of the business. You may call the Sheriff's Office non-emergency
number to inquire - 434-332-9580 or 434-592-9580.
