Tide's Kayla Williams will miss rest of the gymnastics season

Posted: Updated:

Alabama All-American gymnast Kayla Williams will miss the rest of the season with a partially torn Achilles' tendon.

The junior suffered the injury during warm-ups before Friday's meet with Missouri.

Tide coach Sarah Patterson says the injury changes the team's focus and while losing Williams is a blow, she hopes someone will step up and take advantage of the opportunity.

"We can't replace her. She's an All-American, a world champion, one of the best leaders, hardest workers," Alabama coach Sarah Patterson said Monday.

Williams earned All-American honors on the balance beam and was an All-SEC performer on the vault last season.

Alabama will travel to Knoxville this week to take on 17th ranked Kentucky and No. 6 Nebraska.
