Lexington - Liberty won in Lexington for the first time in four years as the Flames held off VMI 85-80 Saturday afternoon.
Senior forward J.R. Coronado poured in a career-high 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Flames. Fellow senior Davon Marshall added 16 points, senior John Caleb Sanders chipped in 15 and 6 assists, junior Andrew Smith adding 13 and 7 rebounds as the Flames evened their Big South record at 1-and-1, LU now 7-and-10 overall.
VMI senior Rodney Glasgow led all scorers with 27, freshman QJ Peterson added 15 but the Big South's leading scorer hit just 5-of-16 from the field. D.J. Covington and Jordan Weethee scored 11 each for the Keydets who drop to 1-and-1 in the conference, 8-and-7 overall. It was VMI's first loss at home this season.
