Former Sweet Water coach Stacy Luker takes job in Mississippi

Posted: Updated:

Stacy Luker is ready for his first out of state challenge.

The former football coach at Sweet Water, Thomasville and Washington County has been named the new coach at Neshoba Central High School in Philadelphia, Miss.

The 49-year-old Luker resigned as Sweet Water's coach last week.

He helped the Bulldogs to five state championships in 12 years. Sweet Water made the playoffs every year.

Neshoba Central was 1-10 last season and has had just two winning seasons in the last 17 years.

"Sometimes when you go into a new situation, it is best to go somewhere where they haven't been winning and you can change the attitude and the culture," Luker told AL.com. I was ready for another challenge in my career, and I think this is that challenge."

Luker plans to finish out the semester teaching at Sweet Water High School while also traveling to his Neshoba Central  two days a week to begin his new job.
