Roanoke/Blacksburg Regional Regain Daily Non-Stop To NYC

Roanoke, VA - Just weeks after announcing the airport would lose its only daily non-stop flight to New York, Roanoke - Blacksburg Regional Airport announced a new carrier will pick up the flight.

In December, Delta said there weren't enough passengers on the flight and it would discontinue February 13.

The flight will still end on that date as it will take 45 days before the joint cooperation of US Airways and American Airlines starts handling the flight.

Delta has only operated this route since 2011 after getting the airport slot from US Air.

US Air ran three daily non-stops to LaGuardia in years prior.

This year's change has American's regional carrier, American Eagle, doing the flying with US Airways taking care of the baggage.

The two airlines are splitting up the flight because they are in the process of merging.

Flight times will also change. The new flight will land in Roanoke about 6 PM; to New York 45-minutes later.

"A lot of the people who were flying to New York didn't fly on Delta because the prices weren't competitive... they felt it wasn't competitive, or it didn't work with their schedule, so a lot of people were getting on US Airways anyway and going one stop up to LaGuardia through Charlotte," said Amanda DeHaven with theRoanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.

Tickets for the New York flights will go on sale January 26 with service to New York resuming on April 1.
