Celebrity Couple In Town To Promote New Film

Lynchburg, Va -  A celebrity couple made a stop in Lynchburg Monday to promote their new movie that premieres in theaters in February.  Mark Burnett, producer of popular shows like "Survivor" and "Shark Tank" and Roma Downey, known for her star role in "Touched By An Angel" have produced the movie, "Son of God". Mark Burnett and Roma Downey say the movie should be a great success, since this is the first time in nearly 50-years the story of Jesus's entire life is told on the big screen, and it's been almost a decade since the movie "The Passion of the Christ" gave viewers a look into only three days of His life.

"Very, very exciting to be here today," said Downey.

After arriving Sunday night in Lynchburg, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's first stop was Liberty University's Convocation. Many of the students here may not remember Downey from the popular television series "Touched By An Angel", but she hopes they will be impacted by her new role as Mary in "Son of God".

"We thought there was an opportunity here to reach a whole new generation of filmgoers," said Downey.

The movie was filmed in Morocco and has actors from all over the world.  It has been in the works for five years now.

"It's so exciting that the movie's coming out, nationwide, three-thousand screens," said Burnett.

The couple says the opening box office numbers are crucial. If it does well, the movie will be shown in more theaters. That's why they're traveling across the country to promote it.

"Working on The Son of God and The Bible series really brought us even closer together," said Burnett.

When they decided to co-produce, the couple says their friends warned them about working together, but they say this project has only made them stronger.

"We knew that many couples can't even work in the yards together, but we have done really well. I think that working together has deepened our marriage, deepened our friendship, it's certainly deepened our faith," said Downey.

"Son of God" will open in theaters across the country in English and Spanish on February 28th. From here, the couple is heading to Charlotte.  They will be traveling the country to promote the film until it opens next month.
