More than 1,000 Danville Residents Lost Power Monday Night

Posted:

Danville, VA - More than a thousand people in Danville lost power Monday night.

The Brantley substation failed around 8 p.m., knocking out power to folks on Bridge Street and Monument Street, among others.

The power was restored around 2 a.m.

That substation is the same one that failed about a year ago, leaving 1,200 people in the dark.

Utilities officials say they are currently dividing the power load among the other substations while trying to find a better temporary solution.

"We're in the process of putting in an emergency mobile substation transformer to help carry some of the load with all the cold weather and bad weather that they have forecast, " said Director of Power and Light Ken Ashworth.

Crews hope to find a permanent fix for that transformer in the near future.
