Customers smiling as Danville post office reopens

DANVILLE, Va. (AP) - Customers at the downtown Danville post office are smiling again.

The post office reopened Tuesday following a shutdown that lasted more than a month.

The post office was closed on Dec. 2. after an inspection found chipping paint in back rooms that hadn't been painted since the 1970s. U.S. Postal Service spokesman Tad Kelley tells the Danville Register & Bee (http://bit.ly/1dvl7NA ) that the paint contained lead.

Kelley says the lead has been abated.

Horizontech president Dave Zook says a convenient post office is important to the downtown's growth. He says it took at least an additional 30 minutes to pick up the company's mail at another location.
