Danville Economic Development Stresses Teamwork

Danville, VA - Economic development is a team effort and Danville wants to make sure everyone is on board with its plans. Members held their first Economic Development Summit Wednesday.

"We are attempting to develop a sense of partnership across the entire community," said Linwood Wright, Consultant with Danville Economic Development.

The theme of the event was simple, 'It takes a team': a team to improve Danville's economy.

"If we want to change our future, it's up to us to change it," said Wright.

The message came through loud and clear from panels to guest speakers. Lunchtime keynote speaker President and CEO of Virginia Economic Development Partnership Martin Briley explains "Every state, every country is aggressively going after market opportunities. We need to do this as a team and we can't do it independently."

President of Danville and Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce Laurie Moran sat on the panel and later in the audience. She hopes to learn what local businesses need to come to the area and stay.

"It's about taking back information on how we can better serve businesses in the community," said Moran.

Business leaders, however, weren't the only ones taking notes economic development workers wanted feedback too.

"We hope we get from them some comments and direction, some ideas," said Wright.

Another keynote speaker is Senator Tim Kaine.
