Danville, VA-- If you're a Danville Utilities customer, there's a new way you can save a couple of dollars on your electric bill.
Danville Utilities has partnered with Womack Electric Company to sell energy efficient light bulbs for less than 40 cents!
A lot of people are taking advantage of this, the program started a couple of weeks ago and Womack Electric Company said they've sold more than 4,000 of these light bulbs.
It's part of Danville Utilities Home Save Residential Energy Efficient Program. If you stop by Womack Electric and purchase the compact fluorescent bulbs, Danville Utilities picks up $1.50 from the tab. So say you bought a 15 watt light bulb, you only pay 38 cents!
Womack Electric said this is a win-win deal for residents. The CFL bulbs use 75 percent less electricity. It also doesn't produce much heat and it last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. For example a 15 watt CFL produces the same amount of light that a 60 watt incandescent light bulb would.
"It helps the city by reducing demand so the city knows how much electricity people are going to be using, but it helps the homeowner by cutting their electric bill," said Steve Adkins, a representative of Womack Electric Company.
This deal is scheduled to run through June, or while supplies last. There's a 20 lamp limit per household. Sams Club in Danville is also participating.
