Drunk Driver Gets 15 Years For Killing Two

Roanoke, VA - The man who drove drunk on I-581 in Roanoke and killed two people last year will spend more than 15 years behind bars.

A judge sentenced Timothy Wellons Monday afternoon. He was facing up to 42 years.

The sentence was as much of a sentence as could be handed down with Wellons' break not coming until he turns 50 years old.

Wellons' license is suspended indefinitely as well.

The sentence isn't quite what the Commonwealth wanted. They wanted the full 40-years to be seen as a message to the community that drinking and driving must stop.

If Wellons behaves in prison, the sentence should give Wellons plenty of time with his two children, something that's not the case for his two victims.

The families of both Kenneth Graham and Paul Golding took the stand Monday in the victim impact phase of the sentencing.

Both families talking about the enormous loss they have suffered.

"We used to go out to dinner when he got home... or meet for lunch. Or just have a cup of coffee when he stops in for maybe an hour or two. I miss holding him in my arms and just kissing him," said Glenda Graham of her late husband.

After the hearing, ABC 13 spoke with Paul Golding's wife who, while glad this part of the case is over, was disappointed that Wellons will only serve the 15 years.

With this being his third DUI, she said she didn't feel Timothy Wellons would ever learn his lesson
