Amherst Co., VA - A 19 year old woman has been taken to the hospital as a result of smoke inhalation after a devastating house fire in the north west part of Amherst County.
The fire broke out early Wednesday morning on Slapp Creek Road, near Rte. 60. According to fire officials, crews arrived on scene just before six in the morning and saw heavy flames.
Because of severe weather, the nearest fire hydrants had frozen over and fire crews had to travel an additional ten miles to get water to battle the blaze.
The woman had already been able to escape the home.
