Part of Danville's Fearn Site Removed By City

Danville, VA - The plantation part of Danville's "Fearn Site" has almost entirely been removed.

The location has been in dispute for more than a year. Preservation Virginia wants it to stay because they say it has historical value, but the City of Danville has other plans for it, including making it into an industrial site.

The city has permits to move the plantation so they've started taking it apart, brick by brick. The cemetery is still there and the city is waiting on a permit to remove it as well.

Preservation Virginia says it is an endangered site and they are saddened that it is being taken away.

"You can never replace a historic site, you can't. People will come to your community to see your historic site if you have them protected," said Sonja Ingram, Field Representative For Preservation Virginia.

City representatives say they plan to relocate the cemetery and plantation.
