Danville Parks and Rec Offers Winter Fun Day For Area Students

Posted:

Danville, VA - For students in Danville that were out of school Wednesday, the Department of Parks and Recreation offered a way to get out of the house with a Winter Fun Day.

Coates Recreation Center was open from 7:30 to 6 today for kids age 5 to 12. For a small fee, the participants got to play games, do arts and crafts, and watch movies.

Meals and snacks were also included.

Parks and Rec officials say it gives kids a place to play while parents are at work.

"There's a quality to the program backs they're not sitting at home watching TV and playing video games. They're running around, they're engaged, they're doing structured activities, " said Program Coordinator said Shanette Jenkins.

Jenkins says this is the third year they've offered Winter Fun Days, but the interest really picked up this year with all the snow days the kids have had.
