Roads Expected to Ice Up Overnight

Lynchburg, VA - The main roads in Lynchburg have been fair in general Wednesday, but some neighborhoods have been tough to get in and out of.

Most people say they didn't mind the snow. In the city, amounts averaged around an inch.

Drivers, however, weren't too pleased with the snow on many residential and secondary roads.

ABC 13 spoke with reps from both VDOT and Public Works who say their main focus Wednesday was first the primary roads, then secondary roads.

Public Works was also catching complaints on residential roads as they came in throughout the day.

Typically, public works doesn't go into residential areas unless there are 2" of snow or more.

Crews were putting down a salt/slag mix on the main roads Wednesday to help with traction and melting.

Paula Jones, Director of Communications at VDOT, says drivers should expect icy road conditions overnight Wednesday.

"The sunshine has and a slight breeze has helped with clearing many of the roads but anywhere where there is moisture left they're probably going to refreeze tonight," Jones said.

Public works and VDOT crews will be out all night again Wednesday night, but drivers should slow down and look out for black ice.
