Suspects Wanted In 'Quick Change' Scheme

Amherst County, VA – The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of two men working a quick change scheme on a cashier at Wal-Mart.

On Monday afternoon, three men executed a quick change scheme where one male kept ‘making change' with the cashier while two others were asking questions.

A quick change scheme happens when someone tries to steal cash by asking multiple change transactions from a cashier.   For example, the suspect will start by buying something small and inexpensive and pay with a twenty dollar bill.   Once the cash drawer is opened he will give the cashier another bill and ask him for change and try to do the same thing multiple times to confuse the cashier. He will then try to tell the cashier how much money to give back, thus shorting the cash register.

It can be simply stopped by separating the exchange transaction and not accepting any cash until each exchange is complete thus stopping the thief quick change scheme.

Anyone that has any information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-5900. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information regarding this crime.
