Flames Lose to High Point in Double OT

LYNCHBURG - Carey Green has been Liberty's coach for 15 years and only 3 times has a team beaten LU twice in the regular season. That third time was Thursday night against High Point.

The Panthers beat the Flames 75-70 back in December and took down the Flames again 94-89 in double overtime.

Mickalya Sanders, a freshman, hit a clutch three-pointer with one second left in regulation that forced overtime with the game tied at 73.

Each team scored nine points in the first overtime and then High Point (13-8, 9-3) outscored LU 12-7 in the second overtime.

Liberty (12-8, 8-3) was getting outrebounded for much of the game. In the final 10 minutes they closed that gap and eventually had 44 rebounds to High Point's 42 but High Point was an astounding 31 of 34 from the free throw line.

Sadalia Ellis had 17 points, 7 assists, and 8 turnovers for LU. In all, LU had 26 turnovers, compared to just 17 for High Point.

Kaylah Keyes led all scorers with 26 points.

Liberty is at Campbell on Saturday.
