Prosecutor Wants Randy Taylor Tried in Nelson County

Lovingston, VA - Nelson County's Commonwealth's Attorney says Randy Taylor should be tried in Nelson County for the murder of Alexis Murphy.

Friday, Anthony Martin responded to the defense's request for a change of venue, calling it 'premature.'

At Taylor's motion's hearing, scheduled for February 7, his attorney are expected to ask for three things: a change of venue, Taylor to be allowed to wear professional clothing at trial instead of a prison jumpsuit, and for certain information to be withheld during the possible sentencing phase.

Taylor is charged with murder, felony murder, and abduction with intent to defile. He's scheduled to go on trial in May, nine months after Alexis Murphy disappeared from the Lovingston Gas Station. Murphy has not been seen since.

Nelson County Commonwealth Attorney Anthony Martin says the county has gone above and beyond to give Taylor a fair trial: sealing search warrants, closing his bail hearing, and issuing a gag order.

Martin points out since that gag order, the media coverage has declined. He also says extensive media coverage of this case is not enough to change the venue.
