Henry Co., VA - Governor Terry McAuliffe has shared some very exciting news with folks on the Southside.
He announced on Friday that a company called Kilgour Industries Ltd. is expanding their operation from the United Kingdom to Henry County, creating more than 150 new jobs.
Kilgour will be moving into the Patriot Centre Industrial Park. For a local convenience store only one mile away, that means more foot traffic and much needed cash flowing in.
While Southside leaders and Governor Terry McAuliffe were rejoicing Friday, so was a local Henry County convenience store.
Governor McAuliffe announced that a U. K. based aerospace company will be making a new home in the Patriot Centre Industrial Park in Henry County, which will bring 155 new jobs.
"This is truly a momentous day," said Governor McAuliffe.
Smokers Choice Convenience Store, only a three minute drive from the Patriot Centre, has already seen the benefits of its location.
"They do get that quick 30 minute break, they just want to grab something to eat or drink and they go back again and even they do while they're leaving to go home," said Mike Patel, the store manager.
But despite business from those workers, Patel said the store still struggles.
"It is in a good location, it's in a traffic area, as I said because of economy because of jobs, the business has been slowing down," said Patel.
He said this new company is bringing hope not only to the jobless, but to his business.
"They'll be more traffic of 155 as you said, that will be coming and going though Liberty Street, so out of 155, maybe 5 or 10 people will stop by regularly. That will give us some kind of money flow coming in the store," said Patel.
Patel, like many others hopes this year is full of many more job announcements.
"Keep bringing these companies in, so people can have a job , so people can have a better life to live," said Patel.
