Woman Thought She Was Going To Die During Abduction

Danville, VA - David Womack is facing felony charges after police say he held them in his apartment on Hughes Street and threatened their lives.

With lights off and doors shut at the Hughes Street apartment, it looks like a reminder of what Latisha Townes experienced last Friday.

"I was terrified right there," said Townes.

Townes says she was close friends with David Womack and his girlfriend since childhood. That's why she never could have expected what was to happen when she went over to their apartment.

"He closed the door and cut the breaker off in the house, and shut the door and locked it," said Townes.

Townes says Womack kept her in the dark, with a knife to her throat.

"As the girlfriend kept talking, he was like pushing the knife deeper and deeper in my throat," said Townes.

Police say two other women, including Womack's girlfriend, also became hostages.

"He said 'The only way you will leave out of here is through plastic or a body bag.," said Townes.

Townes says she was sure she was going to die that night.

"Me thinking to myself, me never seeing my son again, it hurt bad," said Townes.

Nearly a half hour later, she says Womack suddenly let her and another woman go but kept his girlfriend inside so she called police.

"While the officer was on the scene, he heard screams coming from inside the apartment and forced his way in," said Cpt. Dennis Haley with the Danville Police Department.

Police say they arrested Womack without incident. His girlfriend wasn't injured. Townes says she went from wondering how to escape to why this all happened but now she's just thankful to be alive.

Womack is being held in the Danville City Jail facing abduction and assault charges. Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
