Liberty Counsel To Fight Gay Marriage In Virginia

Lynchburg, VA - Virginia Attorney General, Mark Herring's announcement last month, that he would not defend Virginia's Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage was considered landmark.

However, he's receiving some push back. In the court case challenging the amendment, Liberty Counsel, and its President, Dean of the Liberty University Law School, Mat Staver, filed a brief, urging the court to uphold the amendment.

The trial court refused to hear the brief, in the appeal process of the case though, Staver says they will file again. Anything he says to make sure marriage in Virginia remains between a man and a woman.

"A policy that says same-sex marriage is permissible, in fact, even aspirational, is a policy that says children don't need dads, that boys, you don't need fathers and girls, you don't need mothers, moms and dads are absolutely irrelevant to the wellbeing of children and we know from common sense and sociological research, that children do best when they're raised in a home with a Mom and a Dad" he said.
