Liberty's Gill Adds Athleticism in 2014 Recruiting Class

Posted:

From Liberty athletics:

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty Head Football Coach Turner Gill added a dozen players to his 2014 roster when 12 high school football standouts signed national letters of intent on Wednesday.

The dozen signees mark the third recruiting class for Gill at Liberty. Additionally, Gill announced that former West Virginia tight end Will Johnson has transferred to Liberty. He enrolled at Liberty in January and will have three years of eligibility for the Flames.

Gill's incoming freshmen signing class includes five offensive players (quarterback, fullback, wide receiver and two offensive linemen) and seven defensive players (two defensive linemen, linebacker, two safeties and two cornerbacks).

Liberty's coaching staff was able to ink players from five different states to national letters of intent: Florida (3), North Carolina (3), South Carolina (2), Texas (2) and Virginia (2).

Gill has led the Flames to back-to-back Big South titles in his two seasons at Liberty, giving the Flames six conference championships in the last seven seasons. Liberty finished 2013 with an 8-4 record and a 4-1 mark in Big South play.

Liberty begins its spring practice on March 18 and will host its annual spring football game on April 12 at 2 p.m. at Williams Stadium.

The Flames open up their football schedule on the road for the fourth-straight year against a FBS opponent, facing North Carolina on Aug. 30. The 2014 opener marks the first-ever meeting between the Flames and the Tar Heels on the gridiron and will be played at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.
