DEQ Takes Over Lynchburg Oil Spill

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - The Department of Environmental Quality is taking over an oil spill scene in Lynchburg.

The Lynchburg Fire Department department said 150 gallons of heating oil leaked from a tank at a vacant home on Prince Street.

The leak started when someone stole copper pipe, according to police.  The oil might have been leaking for a week or two.

The oil flowed into a creek and a retention pond on Concord Turnpike.  Firefighters used absorbent booms and pads to keep the oil from getting into the James River.
