Truck Struck By Train In Appomattox County

Spout Spring, VA - A Ford pick-up truck was cut in half Thursday evening, when a train plowed into it on the tracks in the Spout Spring community of Appomattox County. State Police said a private drive-way crosses the tracks there.

Police said the driver of the truck got stuck on snow while crossing. The driver noticed a train barreling towards him, and fortunately, he had enough time to get out. He escaped with no injuries.

It caused quite the commotion though. Train engineers, local fire and EMS all were on hand.

Those that live nearby said they were shaken by what had happened.

"Actually I was like I want to see, make sure that nobody's hurt because actually I know some of the people that live on the road back over there so, just wanted to make sure nothing had happened to anybody, nobody had died or anything like that" said James Reed.

No word on what charges if any, the driver is facing.
