Could Be Days Before Residential Roads Are Cleared Of Snow

Campbell Co., VA - A two part snow storm threw clean-up crews for a loop Thursday. VDot and Lynchburg Public works officials said they thought they had a hand on the primary streets, and just as work was to begin clearing residential roads, the snow started to fall again.

That forced plows to prioritize the primaries again, and hold off on clearing the residential roads. Going in Thursday night, that was still their game plan. The extra snow that came Thursday afternoon left a lot of major road ways a mess.

In the county, VDot says expect most residential streets to be passable, not clear but manageable, by Saturday evening. As for Lynchburg City, Public Works has 40 trucks out working non-stop; officials anticipate every street in the city will be clear by Sunday evening if not Monday morning.

Drivers in Campbell County though were ready for a warm-up, "Once you get going, if you can get out I mean it's doable, but it's a slushy mess" said one driver.

"Snow covered some slushy, not too awful bad. If you take your time you can make it alright" said another.

Temperatures will drop again Thursday night, with re-freezing a possibility for many streets. Cleaning crews anticipate the sun will be a big help come and a warmer weekend will aid in clearing these roads as well.
