Henry Co., VA -The Virginia State Police are investigating an early morning crash involving two tractor-trailers that sent a North Carolina man to the hospital.
The crash happened around 5:00 am on Route 220 north bypass one mile south of the Route 57 west exit.
A Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling north when it jack knifed in the roadway blocking both northbound lanes. A second tractor-trailer hauling scrap metal didn't see the jack knifed truck blocking the road as he rounded a curve and was unable to stop in time before he crashed into the jack knifed tractor-trailer.
The driver of the scrap metal truck, 53 year old Jacob Brown was transported to Martinsville Memorial Hospital for injuries that he sustained in the crash. His 2008 Mack Tractor was a total loss.
The driver of the jack knifed tractor-trailer, 55 year old David W. Cox was not injured in the crash but he was charged with Reckless-Driving / Fail to maintain proper control.
As of 9:00 am, the northbound lanes remained closed due to the cleanup efforts.
Police say no further information is available regarding the crash at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
