Butterfly Hugs Gives Hope To Cancer Patients

Lynchburg, VA - A Lynchburg woman has created a very cool project to honor a friend she lost to cancer.

Erica Parkerson is the co-host for the morning show at Spirit FM Radio. She started the organization "Butterfly Hugs" after her friend Tammy passed away.

Parkerson says Tammy put butterfly stickers in radiation machines during her treatments to give people hope. After Tammy died, Parkerson wrapped all of the butterflies, attached Tammy's story, and handed them out to cancer patients.

Parkerson wants to keep it going and put out the call for more butterflies to be dropped off at the station. She's gotten more than 1,000.

"Tammy had hope she wanted to pass that torch along to people and now I'm helping her outlive her life. I just want to give people hope. I want them to see that God loves them, people love them, their life matters, and there's more to the story," said Parkerson.

This is an ongoing project and they will be delivering the butterflies to hospitals and cancer centers all over Virginia.  If you want to donate, head to http://spiritfm.com/ and click on the Butterfly.
