Eden, NC - Another pipe underneath the coal ash pond in North Carolina has opened, but according to Duke Energy representatives, this one is not a threat to the Dan River.
Duke has been working with state officials in North Carolina to make sure another leak will not happen. After they evaluated the situation, they determined there is not a need to take immediate action because it is not posing a danger to the river.
However, Duke is required to fix it by this weekend. Duke Energy says they are continuing to work on both pipes as well as looking at a long term plan to shut down the ash pond.
