COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Officials say electricity has been restored to almost everyone in South Carolina who lost power in last week's winter weather. Utility officials say there still may be some scattered outages around the state with people who had to repair the wiring leading into their homes.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The chief of South Carolina's law enforcement agency says a law meant to prevent the mentally ill from buying guns has already led to 12 people being denied a concealed weapons permit. Chief Mark Keel also says the State Law Enforcement Division has revoked 65 permits because of the law approved last May.
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - The lawyer for a Sumter middle school teacher charged with committing a sex act on a student says her client is innocent. Attorney Rose Mary Parham says the allegations against music teacher Elizabeth Moss came as revenge after she disciplined her students. Parham says Moss looks forward to her day in court.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A former Richland County jail guard has been charged with assault after authorities say he threw a mixture of bleach and water on two inmates. Deputies said 25-year-old Phillip Young was arrested yesterday after a three-week investigation.
