Therapist Offers Advice on How to Talk About Bomb Threats to Your Kids

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - A lot of parents were left to explain these bomb threats to their kids Tuesday.

ABC 13 spoke to Family Therapist Stephen Kelly who says it is important for parents to be honest.

Kelly suggests asking them how they felt about what happened and to be aware if your child seems overly frightened. He also says parents themselves must remain calm to help ease their child's fear.

"Talk to them about going to school, think about the advantages of going to school. It is your routine, you get to see your friends," Kelly said.

Kelly says the younger kids may not be aware of what's going on, so it's ok to hold off on explaining what happened.
