UPDATE: Suspect in Bomb Threats in Police Custody

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg Police tell ABC 13 the suspect in the multiple bomb threats this week is in police custody.

Police arrested Dexter Scott White, 43, from Lynchburg Thursday. White has been charged with 24 felonies in connection with the threats.

One of the charges against White is attempted extortion. They say during a bomb threat White demanded money.

White has been charged with 24 felonies relating to the bomb threats made this week to Lynchburg City schools and Lynchburg General Hospital.

Police would not talk about a possible motive but they did say they believe White was not a danger to the community.

 

"During one of the phone calls he made a statement, attempting to receive monetary proceeds in exchange for not allegedly placing a device at a school," said Capt. Ryan Zuidema with the Lynchburg Police Department.

White was previously convicted of a felony charge for obtaining property in return for a worthless check.

White was also convicted of a few misdemeanors including assault and battery and threatening bodily harm.

UPDATE: 11:30 a.m. - We have confirmed that Laurel Regional School also received a bomb threat this morning.

UPDATE: 11:15 a.m. - The Lynchburg Police Department has released a statement saying that no immediate threat to the community has been identified and all school locations are operating normally.

The police department is working closely with the Lynchburg City School system in their investigative response.

UPDATE:11:04 a.m. Sundusky Elementary School has also received a bomb threat this morning.

UPDATE: Three more schools have received threats this morning.  Dearington Elementary, T.C. Miller Elementary, and R.S. Payne Elementary have all reported receiving threats.

Lynchburg, VA - More bomb threats have been reported in Lynchburg this morning.  According to police, Dunbar Middle, Linkhorne Middle, and Sandusky Middle Schools have all received bomb threats.  In addition, Lynchburg General Hospital has also received a threat.
