Commonwealth Games Director Owen Grogan Dies

Roanoke - Virginia Amateur Sports and the Roanoke Valley lost a tireless worker and great friend Friday morning.  Commonwealth Games Director Owen Grogan passed away at his home with wife Levanda and son Chase by his side.

Grogan was beginning his 15th year with Virginia Amateur Sports.  Before that, he had worked with the City of Roanoke for 20 years and as Assistant Director of the Roanoke City Parks and Recreation Department.  Owen served as Area Chairperson for the Special Olympics Council since the late 70's and was a part of every event and program with Special Olympics.  This comment from one of his colleagues sums it up best.  "Owen was a big man that always had a smile in heart and one on his face.  He made the world a better place."

He certainly did and we'll miss him.  Owen Grogan was 62.
